Planning Blog For Final

Image
Props: My main prop for my opening scene will be my phone. This is the attacker way of contacting me through the unknown number and Lukes number. Other props will be the truck, duffle bag, clothes, and the boat.  Costumes:  In my opening scene I will be the main character or actor in the film. Besides me will be my brother as Luke if he chooses to part take in the filming process. The stalker or attacker in the opening scene role will be taken by John Booysen doing the voice overs. I am unable to take over these roles due to the male gender required in addition to the deep voice needed for the role. My character will have two different outfits. It will consist of the outfit the charcater recieved the call in which will be a shirt and sweatpants. The outfit that the charcater will be running in is in sweatpants and a sweatshirt. The color scheme will be dark with blacks, navys and grays. This is to have the character blend into the shadows during filming.  Saftey: One of the scenes do

Finals storyboards

Image
The storyboard is an easy way for me to create pictures of what I want my shots to individually look like. From the beginning of my opening to the end I can plan each individual shot and that includes the type of shot or action and props needed. My opening clip will be made up of majority of quick shots extreme close ups. Some will be POV shots, closeups, actor held shots. To help you understand my creation I will go one by one and break down the shots by my view of the shot, props needed, and camera angle.  Scene 1- Is a close up of a cell phone on the counter ringing with the caller id: Unknown, this continues for 2 shots. Scene 2- Katelin the main character picks up her phone and answers from a POV shot. That then switches to the a side angle of katelin on the phone and then to a close up of her mouth saying hello. Her eyes will widen when she hears the unknown callers voice.  Scene 3- Is an extreme close up of her heavy breathing, then it cuts to her running up the stairs and placi

Title Design Research: Thriller 30 days of Night

Image
  1.      How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which ones? Ni- Nine Titles were displayed in the opening sequence of 30 days of Night. Stated in the article on watch the titles," The audience is confronted with a sequence of highly disquieting images that cross-dissolve or fade to black. Details of torn and tainted photographs, northern lights, shadows, a bloody tooth embedded in a thick layer of ice and references to the Alaskan wintercape. Brian Reitzell‘s haunting score greatly enhances the discomforting atmosphere." The titles in this opening sequence are simple in all white, however in all capitial letters to state the importantance. I highly like the simple design of the titles and the design of the 30 Days of Night title.  2.      What connotations do the images carry?  - The images carry t he discomforting atmosphere with  Details of torn and tainted photographs, northern lights, shadows, a bloody tooth embedded in a thick layer of i

Title Design Research Man Hunt

  1.      How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which ones? - There were a total of nine titles displayed  during the opening sequence to the film MAN HUNT. This included the producers, staff and crew in a vague acknowledgment. The titles were written is red bold ink in order to stand out from the busy background of the missing files case. Stated on watch the titles, “The final font was titled Ravenna after the evil queen in the film. It is bold and dramatic, yet subdued to match the multifaceted character and her intriguing steadfast ways. ” I really liked the Ravenna font for this film. Its a edgy font with a hint of the classics to it. A typeface can evoke an emotion or an atmosphere, a genre, a style, or a time period. “Pablo Ferro‘s handwriting is a key example,” says Hobson, “they became so iconic that no one can echo it.” For Snow White, Hobson and his team rebuilt a classic serif typeface, Bodoni.  2.      What connotations do the images carry?

Title Design Thriller Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Image
  1.       How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which ones? - No titles are shown during the opening sequences of the film until the very end in which a match is lit and the name of the film appears. Are You Afraid of the Dark's opening sequence was presented on Art of the Title. Having an impactful title sequence is essential. With an ever-changing cast and a new story. The opening titles were the glue that held the show together a touchstone that not only helped inform the tone of the series overall, but also reminded young minds eagerly craving more than Saturday morning cartoons that they were in for a scary good time.  Stated on art of the title, “The brief was to get a feminine font with a hard edge. After playing around with existing fonts, we found that Bodoni had a really nice feel to it, a stylish vibe and some nice detail. But even then it was distinctly feminine. So the solution was to rebuild it." 2.      What connotations do the

Title Design Thriller Dark

Image
1) How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which ones? In the opening sequence of the Dark on the website Art of the titles there is a total of 18 titles displayed. These titles included the producer, casting crew, makeup crew, and the director of photography. The titles contain the important people working behind the movie and that gets a credit for their hard work.   2. What connotations do the images carry? (how do you they make you feel)  The images in the opening scene of dark are filmed with a mirror effect. This is obvious due to the replicating image of the actor or item on the oppisite side of the screen. However, the degree of mirror is confusing but almost reminds me of a POV shot. The titles on the screen are simple white with yellow undertone that makes them pop from the dark background and every new shot is a new title. Stated on arts of the title," “The brief was to get a feminine font with a hard edge. After The thriller aptly opens

Title Website Research

Image
There is many qualities of each website on the topic of tilte design. During the research process I found out the process behind the titles and how the titles is a important component of an opening scene. Art of the Title is one of many websites i conducted research on, which consisted me reading articles and watching short clips. On the news report page I got the opportunity to read about the latest The SXSW Title Design Competition, normally showcased in front of a large audience and featuring an in-person judging process in Austin, Texas, has been shifted to an all-digital experience for 2021. In which  title designer Saskia Marka on her Excellence in Title Design Award for her work on TV series The Queen’s Gambit (2020). Another film was studio Shine on their Special Jury Recognition for their work on the film Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020). The other website I had the opportunity to research was Watch the titles. This website includ

Genre research: Sweet Girl

Image
The thriller Sweet Girl is about a man named  Ray Cooper whose wife is dying from cancer. A new medication that can save her life is pulled from the market even before its distribution and it is revealed that there is something fishy behind the scenes. Ray’s wife dies because of no cure and he vows to seek revenge on everyone who “killed” his wife. I beleiev this movies follows the sterotypical seek for revenge or stalker film.  The plot has nothing much to offer other than a basic story of revenge against powerful people by a common man as he takes them all one by one, at least that`s what it seems like for most of the film until a big plot twist. The film is sloppy with its plot, it tries what it can but isn`t the best that it can be and feels as if it was rushed and not polished. The common angles and shot used in the sweet girl add to the effect of suspense and action packed scenes with low/high angles, tracking shots, extreme and regular close ups, over the shoulder, birds eye v

Genre Research: Rust Creek

Image
Rust Creek is a classic thriller film about a girl named  Sawyer who is an ambitious, overachieving college senior who has a seemingly bright future. While on her way to a job interview, a wrong turn leaves her stranded deep in the frozen forest. Suddenly, the young woman who has everything to live for finds herself facing her own mortality as she`s punished by the elements and pursued by a band of ruthless outlaws. With nowhere left to run, she is forced into an uneasy alliance with an enigmatic loner who has shadowy intentions. Camerea angles used through out the film help the movie achieve giving the audience the emotions of the helpless girl. This is done through low camera angles, POV's, and over the shoulder. During action packed scenes to achieve the rising suspense aspect the common camera angles and movements include POV's, Tracking shots, over the shoulder, close ups, and wide angles. One of my favourite camera angle uses is the creepy dudes POV of Swayer from a dis

Genre research: Deadly switch

Image
Deadly Switch follows the guides of an amazing thriller film with the story about a  foreign exchange student becomes the target of a stalker. Seeking refuge, she accepts an invitation from her roommate to stay at her family home in an idyllic town. But it proves to be far from a safe haven. Camera angles used in Deadly Switch are Tracking Shots, over the shoulder, close ups, extreme close ups. These camera angles and shots help capture the suspenseful moments in the movie. The plot has lots of twists and turns that doesn't end in the usual way of most thriller movies. For example the costumes being used fit the scenes really well. The exchange student at the bar was dresses like the scene and not in sweatpants with a hoodie. The makeup also matched the scene and location. The stalker was held to the the sterotypes of a white male stalker. A man wearing a black hoodie and shirt, with black jeans. His face was covered with a bandana and walk was slow and not real close to the main c

My Genre Decision

Image
I came to the conculusion to choose Thriller as my genre for my two minute opening clip. I reasons behind my decision is that thriller allows me to have more opinions when filming. It doesnt require a certain location such as action and lage amounts of gore like horror. the opening can included elements to make suspenceful while being an action packed opener. Thrillers are also known for making a good story and allows cliffhangers. The reasons for not choosing horror was the waste of time to apply the special effects make up and blood. Another reason was the lack of group mates, since i decidied to work alone I dont have access to the amount of actors require to bring the film to life. The reasons for not choosing the action genre was due to the lack of actors. Many famous action films normally have a duo or a group of four actors. This would highly effect my film, in addition to not having a location to film at. My. action films are known to be predictable and the actors acting arent

Genre Research for Action

Image
Common camera angles include high angles, low angles, over the shoulder, tracking shot, POV, and aerial shots. These camera angles are used in the genre for action in order to add to the suspense. The action genre in the costume department normally consists of male actors wearing a tight top and cargo pants with an army boot and on the other hand female actors in tight short clothing. The lighting is natural light from the sun or its dark. In terms of acting, the emotions of the characters adds to  the suspense and justifies the characters actions. The makeup usage in action films is minimal however used to add marks from the setting on the actors skin and to create believable cuts and injuries. Props used in action films are survival gear, a weapon, but it depends of the film. Majoroty of action films are based outside or in an adandoned location with dignetic sound, sound bridges, and background noise. The editting of the films are fast paced including action match, jump cuts, and cr

Genre Reasearch of Thriller

Image
Camera angles commonly used in Thriller films is extreme close -ups, usage of high and low angles, wide shots, panning shots and tracking shots. These camera angles are used to capture the films suspense and emotions of the characters. In the editing process cuts, special effects, and zoom is add to add to the fast paced suspension film.  Sound plays an important role in thrillers with captivating beats to background noise. The sounds keeps the audience on their toes and speeding/slowing down to match the actions in the film.  Examples of films under this genre are The Little things, Jussrassic World, AVA with the captivating [polt twists.  All the elements of thriller I would include in my film if I picked this genre. I love the idea of the use of sounds and how the camera angles play a huge role of the film.

Genre Research for Horror

Image
Horror films use multiple camera angles to capture the effect of Horror. Hand held camera shots, low angle, tilted angles, close ups, Tracking shots, Reverse and Bird's eye view all add to the effect of horror films. These camera angles can represent the power struggle between the main character and villain. Camera operators also shake the cameras to make the audience grow a sense of panic. Suspenseful music is added in the background to add to the audiences uneasiness and anxiety, these sounds can resemble scraping sounds. This can highly impact the effect the film has on the audience. Costumes in horror films tend to be loose fitting and torn up, but the color pallet is dark colors like blacks and grays.  Horror films are based around gore, this can be shown through horrific makeup with detailed cuts and blood everywhere inorder to gross out and scare the audience.  The suspensful films achieve the effect of feeling chaotic by sudden jump scares and jump cuts in editting so the

My Pitch

Image
Pitch One: Lost in the big city, a boy transported to the future of 2022 with no clue how society has changed.  The complications with this idea is my filming locations do not have many big cities around and majority of locations would be malls and public locations. Another problem would be showing accurate time change representations. For example, I can't have someone in the background with a iPhone 13 and AirPods but the characters are supposed to be in 2009. One of the benefits of choosing this pitch is it can be filmed during the day unlike the other pitch.  Pitch Two: A women getting pulled back into a world of running from an abusive past.  This film gives me more locations to film and they can be more private compared to the other pitch and this also allows me to stick to filming alone. I'm allowed to use more make up and effects usage in this film. I can get more detailed with the make up bruises and cuts. On the other hand, the shots have to be filmed in dark locations
