Title Website Research


    There is many qualities of each website on the topic of tilte design. During the research process I found out the process behind the titles and how the titles is a important component of an opening scene. Art of the Title is one of many websites i conducted research on, which consisted me reading articles and watching short clips. On the news report page I got the opportunity to read about the latest The SXSW Title Design Competition, normally showcased in front of a large audience and featuring an in-person judging process in Austin, Texas, has been shifted to an all-digital experience for 2021. In which title designer Saskia Marka on her Excellence in Title Design Award for her work on TV series The Queen’s Gambit (2020). Another film was studio Shine on their Special Jury Recognition for their work on the film Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020).

The other website I had the opportunity to research was Watch the titles. This website included information on the titles by the genre, information on the designers, and the studios. I watched an interview with a designer named Aaron Becker. As stated in the article,"Becker has been all over the U.S. Born in Indianapolis, raised in Florida, and a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis with a BFA in Visual Communication, his career first started at Prologue Films in Los Angeles and later at Digital Kitchen in Chicago. During that time he got to work in various capacities on films like Speed Racer, Iron Man and Tropic Thunder. " I also found out that Becker has served as main title designer in over 40 films and TV shows, including The Conjuring, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Rambo: Last Blood and most recently, Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep. I'm so exicited to learn more abou the title creation process. The research I condeucted opened my eyes to a different key elements such as titles.

Change of Plans

As the title states, there has been a change of plans in terms of the product of my final task.  I will have to cut the total amount of script to a minimum.  I have changed my aspect of what I want to create and I am leaning more towards a euphoria aspect. In euphoria contains flashbacks with a monotone voiceover. According to an article written about the producer's opinion of the show, " The look and feel of the show are as superheated as adolescence itself. The colors are bold, the score and needle-drop songs are loud, and the camera rarely sits still when it can glide, swoop whip-pan, or spiral. Title Design Research: Thriller 30 days of Night

  1.      How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which ones? Ni- Nine Titles were displayed in the opening sequence of 30 days of Night. Stated in the article on watch the titles," The audience is confronted with a sequence of highly disquieting images that cross-dissolve or fade to black. Details of torn and tainted photographs, northern lights, shadows, a bloody tooth embedded in a thick layer of ice and references to the Alaskan wintercape. Brian Reitzell‘s haunting score greatly enhances the discomforting atmosphere." The titles in this opening sequence are simple in all white, however in all capitial letters to state the importantance. Commercial Group Blog

                  I have come to the decision to create my commercial alone. On short assignments such as the commercial, I prefer to work alone. I have found when you have a group on individuals on an assignment like this one, there is too many ideas and voices to be represented. Another reason I choose to work alone is so I am accountable for my own work. This eliminates the stress of having to make sure everyone submits and does their part of the assignment. I feel when I work alone, I'm the one to have the control over the assignment and can raise the standards. My exceptions for projects is set really high and working with people that don't match my work ethic and standards adds more work for me then what's needed. My personality matches with working alone.
